Meet the Specht & Söhne Apex, a quartz chronograph with sapphire crystal, tachymeter bezel and a perforated leather rally strap. Available in five colorways.

Some watches are built for the track and some for the office. The Apex is designed for both. It takes the visual language of mid-century motorsport chronographs and pairs it with everyday practicality: a sapphire crystal, a dependable quartz movement and 50 metres of water resistance.
A design with motorsport in its DNA
The Apex’s racing influence starts with the tachymeter scale around the dial, which early drivers and timekeepers used to calculate average speed over a measured distance. Twin sub-dials sit in a classic bi-compax layout, which keeps the dial balanced and easy to read. A bright orange chronograph seconds hand stands out against the dial, so elapsed time is easy to pick out at a glance.
The stainless steel case has a finely fluted bezel that catches the light, with pump-style pushers on either side of the crown. It is a sporty look, but it slips under a shirt cuff as easily as it pairs with a weekend jacket.
The strap
The genuine leather strap is perforated in the style of vintage rally straps. Those perforations were originally there to keep drivers’ wrists cool, and they have since become a signature of the racing watch. Contrast stitching runs the length of the strap, and the leather is supple from the first wear, with no long break-in period.
Built for daily wear
The specification is chosen for a watch you wear every day:
- Sapphire crystal. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness, so it resists the everyday scratches that cloud mineral glass over time.
- Quartz movement. It is accurate, low-maintenance and ready whenever you are, with no winding and no resetting after a few days off the wrist.
- Chronograph. Start, stop and reset with the two pushers to time anything from a lap to a parking meter.
- Luminous hands. They stay legible in low light.
- 50-metre water resistance (5 bar). The Apex handles rain, hand-washing and daily splashes without worry.
- Stainless steel case. It is durable, corrosion-resistant and comfortable on the wrist.
Five colorways
The Apex comes in five dial and strap combinations. The version pictured pairs a black dial with a warm brown tachymeter ring and a tan perforated strap, a combination that goes equally well with denim and tailoring.
Every colorway shares the same case, crystal and movement, so you are choosing on style alone.
How to use the tachymeter
Start the chronograph as you pass a mile or kilometre marker and stop it at the next one. The number the seconds hand points to on the scale is your average speed. For example, 30 seconds for one mile means 120 mph.
The verdict
The Apex doesn’t try to be a complicated watch. It is a good-looking chronograph with a durable specification and a design rooted in one of watchmaking’s most loved eras. It is equally at home with a suit or a weekend wardrobe.
