Unconventional Dial Design

Instead, elapsed time is tracked by two central hands: a prominent red hand for the seconds and a rhodium-plated hand for the minutes. This clever arrangement allows the flyback chronograph to function seamlessly without interrupting the expansive beauty of the sunburst dial. The dual time feature is executed with similar subtlety. A central Blackor fumé disc hosts a small, Super-LumiNova-tipped arrow to indicate a second time zone, a feature that visually blends into the background when not in use. Achieving such visual simplicity on the dial required significant mechanical sophistication beneath it. The HMC 730 caliber, an evolution of the HMC 902 automatic movement, was re-engineered as a hand-wound system to accommodate the new complications. It retains advanced features like a column-wheel chronograph and Agenhor’s micro-tooth clutch, which prevents the jolt common in conventional chronographs upon engagement. Furthermore, the elapsed-minute hand jumps instantly to the next minute via a retrograde mechanism, enhancing precision. The movement boasts a 72-hour power reserve from twin barrels, with its indicator discreetly placed on the movement side, visible through the sapphire caseback. A particularly traveler-friendly feature is the ability to adjust the date both forwards and backwards without risk to the mechanism.
Sophisticated Engineering and Final Thoughts
The entire mechanism is encased in a 42mm stainless steel Endeavour case, which measures 13.2mm in thickness. The controls are uniquely positioned with chronograph pushers at 10 and 2 o’clock and a screw-down crown at 4 o’clock. The sapphire display back reveals the anthracite finishing and Moser double stripes of the HMC 730.
