A Legacy Reimagined for the Modern Era
Born in 1968 amidst soaring demand for dive watches, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Polaris set a new standard. It was a 42mm automatic alarm watch, a technical marvel that provided a crucial safety alert for the growing community of subaquatic explorers. Fast forward to 2018, the brand revived this iconic name with a contemporary collection that masterfully walks the line between a rugged tool and a sophisticated luxury timepiece. Continuing this celebrated lineage, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces its latest masterpiece: the Polaris Chronograph in Ocean Grey (ref. Q9028651). This new model honors its heritage while pushing forward with modern design and mechanical prowess, solidifying its place as a flagship sports watch for the esteemed “watchmaker’s watchmaker.”
Masterful Artistry in Case and Dial
The watch features a bold 42mm stainless steel case that remains faithful to the original’s spirit. Its modern construction showcases short, faceted lugs that curve elegantly for a comfortable wrist fit, while the finely brushed caseband and crisp interior angles highlight Jaeger-LeCoultre’s exceptional finishing capabilities. The true centerpiece, however, is the captivating new Ocean Grey dial. A stunning double gradient fades from light to dark across its distinct sectors, evoking the ocean’s depth. The inner portion boasts a radiant sunray finish, contrasted by a finely grained texture on the outer ring. Thirty-five layers of clear lacquer create immense visual depth, a process requiring nearly 40 individual steps to complete for each dial, all protected by a vintage-inspired box-sapphire crystal.
High-Performance Mechanics and Versatility
Visible through a sapphire caseback, the in-house Calibre 761 powers this remarkable timepiece. This manufacture chronograph movement is a testament to JLC’s technical excellence, featuring a column-wheel mechanism with a vertical clutch for precise timing. With two mainspring barrels, it delivers a substantial 65-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 4Hz. Like all JLC movements, it endures the rigorous six-week 1000-Hour Control testing procedure. The Polaris Chronograph is rated for 100 meters of water resistance and offers ultimate versatility with two included quick-swap straps: a black textured rubber option and a stylish powder-blue canvas strap. This new reference perfectly blends heritage and high watchmaking, presenting a refined yet capable sports watch for today’s adventurer.
