Formex, a family-owned Swiss watch brand, stands apart from other independents thanks to its ties to two manufacturing powerhouses: Dexel and Cadranor. This partnership gives Formex unique access to high-end production materials and techniques, typically reserved for far more expensive brands.
Meteorite Dials and Swiss Craftsmanship
The new Essence Space Glacier COSC Automatic builds on Formex’s past meteorite dial innovations. Available in 39mm and 43mm sizes, these watches feature stunning dials crafted from solid Muonionalusta meteorite. Unlike typical dials layered on metal bases, Formex’s are one-piece constructions, allowing for intricate details like a beveled date window directly carved into the meteorite.
Unique Finishing Techniques
To preserve the natural Widmanstätten pattern of the meteorite, Formex avoids common PVD coloring methods. Instead, it employs a dual-phase process: first, electroplating the dial with 98% pure silver, followed by six hand-applied layers of transparent ice blue lacquer. The result is a dial that shimmers with depth and brilliance.
Refined Aesthetics and Function
While the dial dazzles, the rest of the design remains true to the Essence DNA: polished and brushed 316L stainless steel cases, COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 movements, and the patented suspension system for enhanced comfort. Legibility is ensured with black printing and luminous BGW9 markers.
Price and Availability
Priced at $1,870 (strap) or $1,990 (bracelet), the Space Glacier is competitively positioned. With just 100 pieces of each size being produced, these are “production editions” — suggesting possible future availability but still offering exclusivity.
