Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222 in Stainless Steel: A Modern Tribute to a Legend

December 16th 2024

The Vacheron Constantin 222, originally designed by Jorg Hysek in 1977 to celebrate the brand’s 222nd anniversary, holds a special place in horological history as the Swiss manufacturer’s first integrated bracelet sports watch. Revived in 2023 as part of the Historiques collection, the 222 made a triumphant return in solid yellow gold. In 2025, Vacheron Constantin has finally unveiled what collectors have eagerly awaited: the Historiques 222 in stainless steel.

A Stainless Steel Revival for a Milestone Anniversary

This latest release, reference 4200H/222A-B934, commemorates Vacheron’s 270th anniversary with a sleek stainless steel case and a striking matte dark blue dial. Following the design blueprint of its yellow gold predecessor, this new model swaps gold for steel and updates its aesthetic with white gold details.

A Design Steeped in Heritage

The stainless steel Historiques 222 retains its angular 37mm case with a slim 7.95mm profile. A sapphire crystal crowns its fluted bezel, while a display caseback reveals its inner workings—a modern departure from the solid casebacks of the vintage 222. Its integrated bracelet showcases large hexagonal links and refined ergonomics, enhancing comfort and sophistication.

Under the Hood: Caliber 2455/2

Powering the watch is the in-house Caliber 2455/2, a 27-jewel automatic movement running at 28,800vph. Despite its slender 3.6mm thickness, it boasts Geneva Hallmark standards and a 22k gold oscillating weight engraved with the original 222 logo.

The Ultimate Collector’s Piece

Priced at $32,000, the stainless steel Historiques 222 is more accessible than its gold counterpart yet still exudes luxury. With its impeccable design and historic significance, the stainless steel 222 stands as a timeless celebration of Vacheron Constantin’s legacy.
