Citizen Promaster Air Skyhawk A-T Gold Tone Limited Edition: A Bold, Nostalgic Pilot’s Watch Reviewed

October 13, 2026

Nostalgia Meets Modern Capability
For many watch lovers who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s, Citizen’s Promaster line was hard to miss. Its big, bold tool watches filled magazine pages and mall display cases long before many of us knew we were interested in horology. The Skyhawk, especially in its analog-digital form, captures the busy and highly capable design that sparked so many early obsessions. The new limited-edition Promaster Air Skyhawk A-T in gold tone speaks directly to that youthful fascination, and it delivers plenty of fun and function.

A Bold Case Engineered for Wearability
The case measures 46mm across in gold-tone stainless steel and makes no attempt at subtlety. Even so, Citizen uses clever geometry to make it work on moderate wrists, including the reviewer’s 6.75-inch wrist. Wide, radially brushed triangular lug bevels and sloping, almost pointed crown guards hide the height of the mid-case. The tall, rotating two-tone slide rule bezel also sits slightly narrower than the case body, which creates a lower and slimmer profile. The finishing pairs light brushing with broad polished gold surfaces. Although the watch is built for aviation, it still offers 200 meters of water resistance without a screw-down crown.

A Cockpit-Inspired Dial Packed with Functions
The asymmetric dial takes its cues from modern aircraft instruments and blends analog and digital displays. Across the upper half sit a 24-hour UTC subdial at 12 o’clock, a 24-hour home time subdial at 2 o’clock, and a power reserve and radio frequency indicator at 10 o’clock. Wearers pull the crown to the first position to switch modes, which appear on the hexagonal 6 o’clock subdial. The digital windows at 9 and 4 o’clock then show a perpetual calendar, a second time zone, radio signal search, a 99-minute countdown timer, a digital chronograph, and two programmable daily alarms. Every subdial, along with the warm gray azurage lower layer, also works as a solar panel. Applied luminous indices, stencil-style numerals, semi-skeletonized gold sword hands, and a vivid Kelly green seconds hand complete the look.

Eco-Drive Power and Final Details
Inside is the in-house Eco-Drive U680 light-powered quartz movement. It synchronizes with atomic clocks by radio signal, a feature limited to the Northern Hemisphere. Without the signal, it stays accurate to within +15/-15 seconds per month, and a full charge provides six months of power reserve. A tapering gold-tone H-link bracelet flows into the hooded lugs. It combines polished links with vertically brushed center links and closes with a signed two-button folding clasp. Production is limited to 5,200 pieces, and the watch is available now through authorized dealers for an MSRP of $995 USD.
