A Bold Step for King Seiko
Since its 2022 relaunch, the King Seiko collection has been known for its conservative design. However, with its latest 2025 release, Seiko is embracing a more adventurous aesthetic by reviving the VANAC series from the 1970s. Featuring a sharp, angular case and vibrant dials inspired by the Tokyo skyline, the new King Seiko VANAC collection brings vintage flair to modern watchmaking.
Retro Design with Modern Enhancements
Originally launched in 1972, the VANAC series was known for its faceted crystals and bold colors. The 2025 models retain the angular stainless steel case but replace the mineral glass with box-shaped sapphire crystals. Unlike previous King Seiko watches, the new VANAC features a bezel-free design, with wide faceted lugs seamlessly blending into the case. A screw-down crown ensures 100 meters of water resistance, while a transparent caseback—a first for the modern King Seiko lineup—reveals the movement inside.
Five Vibrant Models
The collection includes five models:
- SLA083 – Purple and gold, inspired by twilight.
- SLA085 – Navy blue, representing midnight.
- SLA087 – Silver with gold accents, evoking sunrise.
- SLA089 – Limited to 700 pieces, featuring a golden-brown dial.
- SLA091 – Boutique-exclusive ice blue, symbolizing a clear Tokyo sky.
Each dial features embossed textures, V-shaped markers, and LumiBrite hands for enhanced legibility.
High-End Movement and Pricing
Powered by the Caliber 8L45, the VANAC models offer a 72-hour power reserve and an accuracy of -5/+10 seconds per day. Priced at $3,300 USD, they sit between Seiko’s entry-level mechanical watches and Grand Seiko’s high-end offerings. With this colorful and bold release, King Seiko continues evolving into a serious enthusiast-driven brand.
