Wimbledon Spirit: Maurice de Mauriac x Racquet Rallymaster III Watch

Grass lawns, white attire, and juicy red strawberries — it’s Wimbledon season! To celebrate, Zurich-based watch company Maurice de Mauriac has launched its latest tennis-inspired watch collaboration with Racquet magazine: the Rallymaster III. Unveiled at the Wimbledon AG House during the first week of July, this limited-edition watch features the model’s signature design in a new “green over tan” colorway, perfectly capturing the essence of The Championships.

Distinctive Design and Features

The Rallymaster III sports a brushed stainless steel case, measuring 39mm in diameter, 12mm thick, and 47mm lug-to-lug. These dimensions ensure a comfortable fit on most wrists. A notable addition is the winding crown, crafted from 18k rose gold — a first for the Rallymaster line — which screws securely into the case, offering 100-meter water resistance. The case features sapphire crystals on both sides, with the dial-side crystal including a magnifying lens above the date window.

A Tennis-Inspired Dial

The olive green textured dial, inspired by traditional tennis lawns, is complemented by a white net stretching across the middle. Rose-gold hour and minute hands dominate the center, while a small seconds hand sweeps around a multi-colored subdial at 9 o’clock, divided into 20-second segments. The rose gold tennis ball-shaped indices are coated with blue-glowing Swiss Super-LumiNova, as are the hands, net edges, and the four cardinal points on the outer minute track. The lume on the running seconds counter glows bright yellow, reminiscent of a tennis ball.

Bridging Past and Present

Designed by Carlton DeWoody, a Los Angeles-based creative renowned for interior design, the Rallymaster III combines tennis and graphic watch dial elements from the 60s and 70s. DeWoody aimed to bridge past and present, reinterpreting classic design with a contemporary lens. His design draws inspiration from vintage chronographs, incorporating colorful sub-dials and patterning from yachting and racing dials.

A Glimpse Inside

The back of the watch features a retro-styled Rallymaster logo, with green rackets framing a pink ball, partially obscuring the Swiss Caliber Landeron 24 (based on ETA 2824). This automatic movement operates at 28,800 beats per hour and offers a 40-hour power reserve.

Pulling the Look Together

The Rallymaster III comes with two tan straps: one in grained calf leather and another in stretchy elastic, both with quick-release systems for easy swapping. The extra strap and a pink tennis ball are nestled in the watch box, completing the preppy aesthetic.

Final Thoughts

Thematic watches can sometimes be cheesy, but the Rallymaster III strikes a balance, delivering a stylish and well-executed piece. Priced at $2,400 USD and limited to just 100 pieces, the Maurice de Mauriac x Racquet Rallymaster III is a standout watch for tennis enthusiasts and collectors alike.
