Urwerk UR-230 Polaris: A Space-Age Evolution in Striking White

December 17th 2024

Urwerk, known for its futuristic designs and dark color schemes, has taken a bold turn in 2024 with the release of the UR-230 Polaris. Departing from its usual black and gray palette, the Swiss brand embraces a crisp white aesthetic for this latest iteration, combining cutting-edge materials with its signature innovative design.

Advanced Materials for Durability and Style

The UR-230 Polaris features a case crafted from a ceramic-based composite material reinforced with fiberglass. This aerospace-grade construction offers enhanced impact resistance while maintaining a lightweight feel. Unlike traditional ceramics, which can be brittle, the addition of woven glass fibers significantly strengthens the structure, resulting in a durable yet visually stunning timepiece. Measuring 44.81mm by 53.55mm with a height of 18.38mm, the Polaris retains the dimensions of its predecessor, the UR-230 “Eagle,” while swapping out the layered carbon fiber case for this striking white material.

Simplified Design with a Focus on Functionality

Building on the Geneva-based brand’s iconic UR-2xx series, the Polaris refines the UR-230 design by omitting the hinged lid found on the “Eagle” model. The fully exposed display, protected by a domed sapphire crystal, features a black internal finish with red accents that contrast beautifully against the white case.

Innovative Caliber and Shock Resistance

At the heart of the UR-230 Polaris lies the Caliber UR-7.30 automatic movement, featuring Urwerk’s signature satellite-style retrograde display. Two unique technologies enhance the movement’s shock resistance. A disengagement knob allows the rotor to be decoupled, while the “Air-Brake” turbine system regulates rotor speed through airflow adjustments. Together, these features ensure the watch is resilient during sports or other high-impact activities.

Limited Edition with Unmatched Detailing

Limited to just 35 pieces, the UR-230 Polaris comes with a white vulcanized rubber strap that mirrors its clean aesthetic. Hand-painted Super-LumiNova markings glow blue and green in low light, adding to its otherworldly appeal. At an official retail price of 150,000 CHF (approximately $170,000 USD), this timepiece is a fresh take on Urwerk’s space-age craftsmanship, offering collectors an extraordinary blend of style and innovation.
