Christopher Ward C12 Loco: A Bold Evolution Beyond Bel Canto

April 23rd 2025

Not Just Hype—A Real Follow-Up
When whispers spread that Christopher Ward had something “bigger than the Bel Canto” on the horizon, fans were eager. After a playful but divisive Mr. Jones collab, the real news dropped: the C12 Loco. While it may not outshine the Bel Canto in impact, it certainly pushes boundaries.

Merging Icons: The Twelve Meets Bel Canto
The C12 Loco blends the mechanical artistry of the Bel Canto with the integrated bracelet design of The Twelve. More than a simple fusion, it features Christopher Ward’s second in-house movement, the hand-wound CW-003, which offers a massive 144-hour power reserve. Housed in a reworked, sculptural case, the C12 Loco stands at 13.7mm thick and 41mm wide, topped with twin sapphire crystals for a dramatic dial presentation.

A Visual and Mechanical Marvel
The time is displayed at 12 o’clock, with the dial’s true star—the visible free-sprung balance wheel—sitting at 6. The layered dial, angular bridges, and vibrant colors (orange, white, blue, black) evoke high horology at a surprisingly accessible price. With luminous hands, vertically brushed textures, and quick-release color-matched straps or steel bracelet options, this watch is made for both aesthetic appeal and wearability.

Finishing and Functionality
Despite only 30m water resistance, the C12 Loco feels sportier than expected thanks to its integrated rubber strap. While the movement display is front-loaded, the caseback still shows off quality finishing and contrasting materials—another nod to luxury craftsmanship.

Democratizing Haute Horology
At $4,595 on rubber and $4,825 on bracelet, the C12 Loco packs in-house movement sophistication and showpiece design under $5K. It may not be the next Bel Canto, but it proves Christopher Ward is still redefining the rules of watchmaking.
