Celebrating 50 Years of Innovation: The Casio CRW001-1 Ring Watch

December 23rd 2024

Since 1974, Casio has been a leader in timepiece innovation. As part of its 50th-anniversary celebrations, the Japanese manufacturer unveiled the Casio CRW001-1 Ring Watch—a miniature marvel inspired by the iconic square G-Shock design. This stainless steel creation encapsulates Casio’s commitment to pushing boundaries while honoring its storied history.

A Tribute to Casio’s Roots

The CRW001-1 Ring Watch isn’t Casio’s first ring-shaped product. The journey began in 1946 with the “yubiwa pipe,” a ring-mounted cigarette holder crafted by Casio founder Tadao Kashio. Fast forward to today, and this ring watch bridges Casio’s heritage with modern innovation. While watches are a cornerstone of Casio’s portfolio, the CRW001-1 serves as both a tribute to its legacy and a reimagining of its iconic designs.

Design and Craftsmanship

Resembling the G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1, the CRW001-1 Ring Watch features a stainless steel case and band, a flat mineral glass crystal, and a water-resistant seal created through a specialized glass adhesive technique. Although not designed for swimming, it’s splash-resistant and serviceable for battery replacements. The watch measures 19.5mm across and fits a US/EU ring size of 10.5, with spacers included for smaller sizes.

Advanced Manufacturing Meets Functionality

Built using metal injection molding (MIM), the CRW001-1 achieves a level of precision that traditional machining cannot. This process, commonly used in electronics and medical industries, ensures durability and intricate detailing. Powered by Module 3573, the digital quartz movement offers features like a stopwatch, dual-time, automatic calendar, and LED backlight—all in a 16-gram package.

A Novelty That Delivers

Priced at $120 USD, the CRW001-1 Ring Watch is more than a novelty. With premium materials and robust functionality, it offers the quality expected from Casio, bridging the gap between innovation and accessibility. It’s a small but mighty celebration of Casio’s legacy.
