Designing the future with inspiration from the past is a rare art—and British designer Tej Chauhan has mastered it. His collaboration with Swiss watchmaker Rado returns in 2025 with the new Diastar Original x Tej Chauhan Special Edition, a timepiece that channels ‘60s and ‘70s retro-futuristic flair into modern wristwear. Bold, nostalgic, and unapologetically unique, this watch is a standout statement in the evolving landscape of timepiece design.
Golden Luster Meets Ceramos Innovation
At first glance, the 38mm cushion case appears simple, but Chauhan’s edition turns convention on its head. Using Rado’s Ceramos—a material combining 90% ceramic with 10% metal—the watch case achieves a brilliant, “more gold than gold” effect that changes with light. Combined with a recessed crown and clean lug structure, this watch wears large and confident despite its relatively compact size.
Dial Drama and Colorful Expression
The real showstopper is the dial. With a sprawling minute scale stretching edge to edge and color-coded “party time” hours between 9 and 12 in cyan, the face is alive with visual energy. Each day of the week features its own color and font, while the wedge hands and yellow seconds marker add quirky contrast and functionality.

Powering the watch is Rado’s R764 automatic movement, offering an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron hairspring. The futuristic strap design, inspired by mid-century furniture, complements the aesthetic with comfort and retro-chic style.
