Introducing the Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite Watches

January 14th 2025

Omega has unveiled a fresh take on the Speedmaster, introducing the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite models. These watches combine stunning meteorite dials, innovative handwound movements, and dual moonphase displays, setting a new benchmark for wearable luxury.

A Legacy of Meteorite Dials

Meteorite dials are not a new phenomenon in watchmaking, with brands like Rolex, Bulova, and Jaeger-LeCoultre pioneering their use. Even Omega has ventured into meteorite dials before with the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon Meteorite. However, these new Moonphase Meteorites bring a unique twist with celestial material and meticulous design.

Slimmer Case, Better Fit

Omega addresses a common critique of moonphase Speedmasters: their bulkiness. By introducing a handwound caliber, the new models boast a reduced case size of 43mm in diameter and 13.6mm in thickness—significantly slimmer than their automatic predecessors. With a lug-to-lug measurement of 48.6mm, these watches offer an improved and more wearable fit.

Stunning Meteorite Dials

The dials are crafted entirely from Muonionalusta meteorite, with options for a gray galvanic or black PVD coating. Blue accents complement the gray dial, while the black option adopts a monochromatic look. Both feature 18k white gold hands and markers with Super-LumiNova fill, adding elegance and visibility.

Enhanced Moonphase Display

At 6 o’clock, the moonphase display shows the lunar phases for both hemispheres, a unique upgrade from the single crescent aperture. The moons, crafted from lunar meteorite, add warmth and individuality to each watch.

The New OMEGA 9914 Movement

The handwound OMEGA 9914 caliber powers the watches, offering a 60-hour power reserve, resistance to 15,000 gauss, and Master Chronometer certification. This movement, visible through the sapphire caseback, ensures accuracy and showcases Omega’s signature finishing.

Price and Value

Priced at $17,100 USD, these models come with a 50% premium over the standard Speedmaster Moonphase. While the cost reflects the meteorite dial and new movement, it may prompt debate among enthusiasts regarding its value.

The Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite combines celestial beauty with practicality, solidifying its place as a standout in the Speedmaster lineup.
