Dietrich’s Design Vision: A Decade in the Making

Over the past decade, Dietrich has carved out a unique niche in the watch industry with a design philosophy that emphasizes soft, comfortable lines and organic forms. This approach aims to create watches that not only look stylish but also feel like a natural extension of the wearer. The brand’s latest release, the ED-1, epitomizes this vision as Dietrich’s founder, Emmanuel Dietrich, describes it as the “if I only had one” watch.

A Journey Through Time: Dietrich’s Evolution

Dietrich made its debut at Baselworld in 2014 with the Organic Time, a semi-skeletonized watch inspired by nature. The Organic Time rejected harsh angles in favor of smooth, natural shapes, merging nature with horology. Subsequent releases continued this design ethos, presenting more accessible forms like the classic skin diver.

The ED-1: A Versatile Masterpiece

The ED-1 is designed to be the ultimate go-anywhere-do-anything watch. With a 39mm stainless steel case, 100m water resistance, and a sporty yet elegant dial, it ticks all the boxes for versatility. The 39mm case diameter and 46mm lug-to-lug distance ensure a comfortable fit for various wrist sizes, while the 11mm thickness and 72g weight make it ideal for everyday wear.

Organic Aesthetics: Blending Form and Function

Dietrich’s design approach is evident in the ED-1’s soft lines and rounded hexagonal bezel, contrasting sharply with the industry’s trend towards sharp angles. The watch features a stainless-steel bracelet with a honeycomb motif, echoing the hexagonal bezel and creating a cohesive, organic theme. Additionally, each ED-1 comes with a custom Delugs leather strap for those who prefer a different look.

A Dial Rich in Detail

The ED-1’s dial combines familiar elements like a railroad minutes track and sector dial layout with unique features such as Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12. The dial also showcases crosshairs and sandwich-dial construction from the Skin Diver 1, leaf hands from the Organic Time, and a fumé effect available in green or blue.

Reliable Performance: The Heart of the ED-1

Powered by the Swiss Sellita SW200 movement with a custom engraved rotor, the ED-1 offers reliable performance with a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through a tinted sapphire caseback, adding a touch of elegance.

Exclusivity and Availability

The Swiss Made Dietrich ED-1 is priced at CHF 1,480 before VAT and includes both a metal bracelet and a color-matched Delugs leather strap, all packaged in a blue fabric travel pouch. Pre-orders open on July 19, 2024, for one month, with deliveries expected in early 2025. The ED-1 is crafted for those who seek a unique, everyday watch that stands out from the mainstream.
