A few years ago, a watch caught my eye on social media—a design unlike anything I’d seen. This intriguing timepiece led me to Justin Walters, the creative mind behind both the Marin Skindiver and the new Alterum Worldtimer. Walters’ ability to craft two distinctive watches in such a short time remains a mystery, but what’s certain is that the Alterum Worldtimer is finally here, available for purchase.
A Fusion of Inspirations: White T-Shirts and Frank Lloyd Wright
The Alterum Worldtimer draws its aesthetic from an unexpected combination: the simplicity of a white t-shirt and the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. Inspired by the concentric rings of Wright’s Guggenheim Museum, Walters crafted a design that merges sculptural elegance with casual appeal. The Worldtimer’s 38.5mm stainless steel case is vapor-blasted for a matte finish that gleams subtly in the light, adding to its accessible yet high-design appeal.
Distinctive Case and Bracelet Design
The Worldtimer’s flat sapphire crystal and dual crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock (for the city disk and time setting) add a unique flair. The case’s circular form contrasts with angular lugs that integrate seamlessly with a bold, almost brutalist bracelet. The bracelet, finished to match the case, features textured grooves and a tapering butterfly clasp, making it as stylish as it is functional. With 50m water resistance, this watch is ideal for travelers looking for a resilient yet refined timepiece.
Minimalist Dial with a Twist
The watch’s dial, featuring four concentric discs with a frosted matte finish, creates a visually pleasing, minimalist design. The central disc shows the minutes, while the hours are marked by a ring underneath the crystal, creating a unique yet slightly unconventional reading experience. The outer discs include a rotating 24-hour ring and a city ring, displaying time zones effortlessly.
Inside the Movement: Swiss-Made Precision
Powering the Worldtimer is the modified Sellita SW330-2, chosen to meet the watch’s world-time needs without the clutter of a traditional GMT hand. With a 56-hour power reserve, this movement is Swiss precision at its finest.
A Limited Edition Watch for the Minimalist Collector
The Alterum Worldtimer, priced at $3,315 USD, is limited to only 100 pieces for its initial release. With its innovative design and minimalist aesthetic, this watch is a modern take on timeless elegance—a piece that challenges and elevates the standard of contemporary watchmaking.
