TAG Heuer and Porsche Unite for a Special Timepiece

The Carrera name holds significance for both TAG Heuer and Porsche. Both brands have named product lines after the legendary Carrera Panamericana rally, a thrilling and dangerous event that took place in Mexico in the early 1950s. Although the original 3,000 km race was discontinued in 1954 due to safety concerns, it was revived in 1988 and continues to this day.

In 2024, Porsche celebrates the 70th anniversary of its victories at the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, where the Porsche 550 Spyder claimed first and second in the under 1500cc sports car class. To mark the occasion, TAG Heuer has debuted the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana watch, drawing inspiration from the winning Porsche 550 Spyder and limited to just 255 pieces.

Design Elements Inspired by Porsche 550 Spyder

The watch’s silver, black, and yellow color scheme is a direct nod to the Porsche 550’s iconic livery. The 42mm stainless steel case is topped with a domed sapphire “Glassbox” crystal, a feature reminiscent of the 1970s, revived by TAG Heuer. The engraved “Spyder” logo on the side and Carrera Panamericana branding on the dial add to its commemorative appeal.

Dial Details & Racing Heritage

TAG Heuer incorporates the Porsche 550 Spyder’s details into the watch’s skeletonized dial, designed to mimic the car’s wheels and bodywork. The black grained finish represents the road asphalt, while the trio of yellow lacquered hands references the car’s race number. A tourbillon occupies the 6 o’clock position, enhancing the sporty aesthetic.

Precision Movement & Limited Edition Status

The watch is powered by TAG Heuer’s in-house COSC-certified Caliber TH20-09 tourbillon movement, offering 65 hours of power reserve. With a limited run of 255 pieces, the number 255 pays homage to the Porsche 550’s number 55 from its 1954 win.

Retailing for CHF 35,000, this timepiece is a bold tribute to the legacy of Porsche and the Carrera Panamericana rally.
