October 19th 2024
On October 18, 2024, Patek Philippe officially unveiled its much-anticipated new series: the Cubitus collection. For the first time in over 25 years, Patek has launched a completely new line, sparking intense debate and curiosity within the watch community. Positioned as the brand’s second integrated bracelet sports watch, the Cubitus collection is already dividing opinions and generating buzz.

Filling the Nautilus Void
Since the discontinuation of the beloved Nautilus ref. 5711 in 2021, Patek Philippe enthusiasts have been left without a stainless steel, time-only option in the Nautilus line. Many see the Cubitus as a strategic move to fill this gap, while also pushing the Nautilus further into the luxury market. The Cubitus offers a more youthful, modern design with a lower price point — but by no means “affordable.”

The Cubitus Design: A Nod to the Past?
The Cubitus collection offers three initial models, each sharing a bold 45mm case. The design draws comparisons to the Nautilus, but with sharper, more angular lines. Its square bezel and broader, beveled edges give it a more aggressive feel, which may appeal to a younger audience. However, some critics argue that the proportions, especially the thicker bezel and wider hinges, don’t quite capture the elegance of the Nautilus.
Movement and Craftsmanship
Both three-hand Cubitus models are powered by the in-house 26-330 S C movement, which features a modest power reserve of 35-45 hours. The platinum model, ref. 5822P-001, stands out with the innovative 240 PS CI J LU movement, boasting six new patents and a sophisticated calendar complication.
A Historic Moment for Patek Philippe
The Cubitus line, particularly the stainless steel model, seems tailor-made for collectors driven by hype and exclusivity. Time will tell if the watch community fully embraces this new design, but one thing is clear: Patek Philippe’s Cubitus is already making history. Prices start at $41,243 USD.
