A. Lange & Söhne has unveiled a new addition to its Zeitwerk collection: the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater Honeygold. This limited-edition watch is the first to combine the brand's signature jumping numerals display with a decimal minute repeater.
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater Honeygold is housed in a 44.2mm Honeygold case. Honeygold is a proprietary gold alloy developed by A. Lange & Söhne that is harder and more durable than traditional gold alloys. It also has a warm hue that sits somewhere between pink gold and yellow gold.
The gray dial of the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater Honeygold is dominated by the two oversized windows for the jumping hours and minutes. The running seconds subdial is located at 6 o'clock, and the power reserve indicator is located at 12 o'clock. The two gong hammers for the minute repeater are prominently displayed below the jumping numerals windows.
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater features a decimal minute repeater, which means that it chimes ten-minute intervals, rather than the traditional quarter-hour intervals. This makes it much easier to determine the exact time by ear, especially when the time is close to the hour.
To activate the minute repeater, the wearer presses a pusher at 10 o'clock. The watch will then chime the time, with a low-pitched tone for the elapsed hour, a double tone (high- and low-pitched) for the elapsed ten-minute period, and a high-pitched tone for the elapsed minutes.
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater is powered by the hand-wound Caliber L043.5 movement. This movement is equipped with a constant-force escapement, which provides a consistent flow of energy to the jumping numerals display and the minute repeater mechanism. Caliber L043.5 has a power reserve of 36 hours, but the minute repeater cannot be used if the watch has less than 12 hours of power reserve.
The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater Honeygold is a limited edition of 30 pieces. The price has not been announced, but it is likely to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
